Hi
I need your help.

I have the following MacBook that I bought used, and the hard drive broke down. I now need to format it, and it's asking for a password, which I don't have.

The motherboard is 820-2936-B, and the unlock chip is the one in the photo; I can't perfectly identify it.

Could you please help identify the chip it and provide the unlock file?

Thanks

I checked the chip photo and the board model (820-2936-B).

This MacBook is an older generation where the EFI / firmware password is usually stored in an external EEPROM chip (8-pin, 24xx series), not in the SSD or CPU.

In many cases on this generation, reprogramming or resetting this EEPROM can remove the firmware password.
However, this is NOT guaranteed and carries some risk.

Before doing anything, a full backup of the EEPROM must be taken.
If the wrong data is written or the chip is misidentified, the EFI can be corrupted and the board may not boot.

This method does NOT work on newer MacBooks with T2 or Secure Enclave.
