Hello
I have an dell p56f
board CAM00/01 LA-E331P

it doesn't turn on, however the transformer has no signal on the middle pin, is that why it doesn't turn on? can i simulate this signal? is it a voltage signal or is it data? or do I really need to buy a new transformer to test?
Thanks

What is the center pin of a laptop power adapter for?
Depending on the manufacturer, its purpose:
Apple for example uses it to do a power test before feeding the OneWire line.
Others to check if the adapter is original or alternative.
On some Lenovo models it is connected to an internal thermistor to check battery status and temperature. In others from HP they go through a dedicated circuit to carry out current detection tests, indicator LED lighting, etc.
There are others who just use it as a guide that is not connected to anything...

What is good to know is that even though the connector of an adapter from a different manufacturer of the laptop is physically similar, for safety, it should not be inserted, either because there may be a change in polarity, a test voltage that it goes directly to a component that does not resist it, etc.
